Privacy Policy
TurboGrid is a location-based car culture game made by Artesia Labs LLC (“Artesia Labs”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what TurboGrid collects, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers the TurboGrid apps for iPhone and Android, the service behind them, and this website, turbogrid.app.
The short version
- We collect what the game needs: your account, your location when you check in or play, the photos and posts you choose to share, and the cars and logbooks you add.
- We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. TurboGrid has no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software of its own.
- Two map companies, Mapbox and MapTiler, receive map requests from your phone. Google's Firebase delivers push notifications if you turn them on. Cloudflare carries the traffic to our servers and to this website.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or by email (see turbogrid.app/delete-account).
1. Information you give us
- Account: your email address, username, display name and password. We store your password only as a one-way hash. Your email address lets you sign in and lets us contact you about your account. Other players never see it.
- Terms: the version of our Terms of Service you agreed to, and when.
- Profile: your display name, title, bio, avatar, club and settings. When you crop a photo for your avatar or a car, we keep the uncropped original privately so you can re-frame it.
- Cars and logbooks: the make, model, year, generation, trim, notes and photos of your cars, the 3D model you pick for each, and logbook entries: dates, odometer readings, parts, costs and receipt photos. Receipts often show names, addresses or card digits, so only the car's current owner can see them (and our staff, if they have to review one). If you transfer a car to another player, its logbook, receipts and ownership history go with it.
- Posts and community: feed posts, comments, likes, event photos, club chat messages, announcements, polls and votes, availability answers, event RSVPs, club join requests and invitations, and any place or address you attach to a post or an event.
- Reports and blocks: when you report something, the reason and any details you write; when you block a player, who you blocked.
- Support: if you email us, your message and your email address. An email you start from Contact support in the app also fills in your app version, which system your phone runs (with the iOS version on iPhone) and your username, and you can change them before you send it.
2. Information collected when you play
Location
TurboGrid asks for your location only while you're using the app. It never uses your location in the background. On your phone, your location centers the map and shows what's nearby. It's sent to our servers when you:
- check in at a waypoint or a meet: we store the coordinates and accuracy your phone reported, the distance we calculated, the time, and whether the check-in was accepted. We keep refused attempts too, to stop cheating;
- play club Tag: we store your last reported position during a game and where each tag happened. Other players in the game see only how near you are, never where you are;
- add a photo to an event gallery: your position confirms you're at the event and is then discarded. The photo is placed at the event, not at your position.
When you move the map or look at what's nearby, the app asks our servers about that area. We use it to answer and don't store it. Other players see your check-ins only as counts and standings, never your location.
Photos
We store the photos you take or choose to upload. Before storing a photo we remove the information embedded in it, such as the GPS location your camera may have added. Check-in proof photos are private to you and our staff.
Camera and motion in games
Some games use your camera or your phone's motion sensors to follow how you tilt or turn your phone. Camera images are never uploaded or stored. To score a round, the game sends us a record of how you tilted or turned your phone during it, and we keep that record with the round.
Gameplay
Your XP, level, influence, territory contributions, game rounds and scores, leaderboard places, challenges and rewards, including signs of cheating that our checks detect.
Notifications
If you turn on push notifications, we store the push token Firebase issues for your phone, a random installation ID and your phone's platform (iPhone or Android). We also keep the notices in your in-app inbox and whether you've read them.
Technical data
Our servers see your IP address when your phone connects. We use it for a short time to slow down repeated sign-in attempts and to protect the service from abuse. Our server logs record errors and service events. The log files our API writes are deleted after 14 days. The console logs of the services on our server are limited to 50 MB per service, and their oldest entries are deleted as new ones are written.
3. Information that stays on your phone
Your sign-in (kept in the iPhone Keychain or Android's encrypted storage), app settings such as map quality, appearance, tutorials, game settings and the notices you've already seen, and cached map tiles stay on your phone. We don't collect them. The app also keeps a cached copy of your car's 3D model choice, which we store with your car. Deleting the app removes most of them, but on iPhone, Keychain items can survive deleting the app. Signing out first removes your sign-in; your app settings and the app's random installation ID can stay.
4. How we use information
- To run TurboGrid: accounts, check-ins, territories, clubs, posts, chat, leaderboards and notifications.
- To keep the game fair and safe: preventing cheating, reviewing reports, and removing content and accounts that break our Terms of Service.
- To help you when you contact us, and to tell you about important changes to your account or our terms.
- To fix problems and keep the service secure.
We don't use your information for advertising. We don't sell it, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. What other players can see
- Your profile: your display name, title, avatar, club, bio, primary car and the last week's game stats. Profiles are public by default, and a public profile can be seen by anyone, including people who aren't signed in to TurboGrid. To hide yours, turn off both Public profile and Spotlight opt-in in Profile → Settings → Who can see you. Your display name still appears next to your posts, on leaderboards and in your club, with your avatar wherever those show one.
- Your club's public page: each club has a public page that anyone can open, including people who aren't signed in. If Spotlight opt-in is on, it lists you with your display name, title, avatar, role in the club, level and primary car. Turn off Spotlight opt-in to leave it.
- Player search: other players can find you by your username or display name. If you turn off Public profile, they can find you only by typing your exact username. Players you've blocked, and players who blocked you, can't find you at all.
- Posts, comments, event photos and likes: public posts can be seen by every player, and club-only posts appear in the app only to your club's members. The photos you share, meaning the photos in posts (club-only posts included), event photos, avatars, car photos, and club logos and banners, are stored at web addresses that are hard to guess but not secret, so anyone who has a photo's link can open it. Private photos, such as receipts and check-in proofs, are not: see Security.
- Events are public: every player can see them.
- Club chat: members of your club who can see that channel.
- Leaderboards and rosters: a waypoint's or a meet's leaderboard shows your display name and your club's tag, and a place on one shows that you played there. Territory standings show your display name, username, club tag and avatar. Your club's member list shows your display name, username, title, level, XP and avatar.
Other players can screenshot or share what they see, and we can't control copies they make.
6. Companies that help us run TurboGrid
These companies process information for us, to provide their part of TurboGrid. We don't sell information to them or to anyone else.
- Cloudflare (network, website and email). Connections to our servers and to turbogrid.app pass through Cloudflare, which handles the encryption (TLS) and sees your IP address and the requests your phone or browser makes. Emails you send us pass through Cloudflare's email routing to our mailbox at Google (Gmail), which stores them for us. This website sets no cookies of its own and runs no scripts or analytics. Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Mapbox (the 2D map and address search). Your phone loads map data from Mapbox, which receives your IP address and the area you're viewing. When you search for an address, Mapbox receives what you typed and the exact location already set on the form (your position or a pin you placed), to rank the results. The Mapbox software in the app also sends Mapbox usage and location data that isn't linked to your TurboGrid account; you can turn this off from the ⓘ button in the corner of the 2D map. Mapbox privacy policy.
- MapTiler (the 3D map and map previews). Your phone loads map tiles from MapTiler, which receives your IP address and the tiles you view. MapTiler privacy policy.
- Google Firebase (push notifications). Firebase's software in the app creates a random installation ID and sends Google delivery diagnostics that aren't linked to your account. Firebase also issues a push token for your phone when the app starts. We receive and store it only if you turn on notifications, and then Firebase delivers our notices; a notice's title and text pass through Google, and on iPhone through Apple's push service. Firebase privacy information.
- Apple and Google distribute the app. If you allowed it in your phone's settings, they may share crash reports and performance data with us, under their own privacy policies.
- Apple Maps, Google Maps or another maps app, if you ask for directions to a place: the app hands that app the destination.
Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors; we don't send OpenStreetMap anything.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, to investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy keeps applying to your information.
7. How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, profile and settings | Until you delete your account |

| Push token | No longer used once you turn off notifications or sign out; deleted with your account |
| Notification inbox | Until you delete your account |
| Server logs | The API's log files: 14 days. The services' console logs: up to 50 MB per service, with the oldest entries deleted as new ones are written |
| Backups | 14 days |
| Support emails, including deletion requests | As long as needed to help you and to show we honored your request |
| The record that an account was deleted | Kept, without your name or email address |
8. Your choices and rights
- Location: change it at any time in your phone's settings. Without it you can still look around the map and the feed, but you can't check in, play a waypoint's or a meet's games, add photos to an event's gallery or play Tag.
- Notifications: Profile → Settings → Notifications in the app, or your phone's settings.
- Who can see you: Profile → Settings → Who can see you.
- Blocking: block a player from the ⋯ menu on their post, comment or photo, from their profile, or by pressing and holding their chat message. You stop seeing each other's posts, comments, photos and chat messages, you can't open each other's profiles in the app or find each other in search, and pending club invites and car offers between you are cancelled. They aren't told. Events stay visible, and leaderboards keep their places but show “Blocked driver”. Unblock in Profile → Settings → Who can see you → Blocked drivers.
- Delete content: delete your own posts, comments, photos, cars, logbook entries and receipts in the app.
- Delete your account: Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account, or by email as turbogrid.app/delete-account explains.
- Access, correction and deletion requests: edit your profile in the app, or email us for a copy of your information or anything else. We answer within 30 days; deletion requests follow the timeline on turbogrid.app/delete-account. Some US states give their residents rights to know, access, correct and delete personal information and to opt out of its sale, sharing or use for targeted advertising. We don't sell or share personal information or use it for targeted advertising, and we honor access, correction and deletion requests from every user. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask you to confirm the request from your account. If we decline a request, reply to our answer to appeal. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.
9. Security
Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. We store passwords only as hashes. Private photos, such as check-in proofs, receipts and uncropped originals, are served only to their owner and our staff, and only our staff can see account details such as your email address. No system is perfectly secure; if you find a problem, please email us.
10. Age limit and children
TurboGrid is for people 17 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 17 is using TurboGrid, email us and we'll delete the account.
11. Where we operate
TurboGrid is offered in the United States. Our servers are in the United States, and we store and process information there. Our service providers, such as Cloudflare, Google and MapTiler, may process information in other countries.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll post changes here and update the effective date at the top. The version at the top is the version of our Terms of Service: it changes only when the terms change, and then the app asks you to accept them again. A change to this policy alone updates the effective date, not the version. If a change is significant, we'll let you know before it takes effect, for example in the app or by email.
